India’s biggest IT raid ever, Rs 300 cr recovered and still counting

Bhubaneswar/New-Delhi:  The income tax department have intensified their raid and have recovered Rs 300 cr so far during the raid linked to Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu in Odisha.

According to sources, the amount will rise as more cash is yet to be counted. The IT department have conducted raid at the offices of an Odisha-based distillery in the state, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.

Officials said Boudh Distillery Private Limited is also a partnership firm of Baldeo Sahu & Group of Companies (based out of Boudh) that is accused of tax evasion.

More than Rs 300 crore cash has been seized till now, and cash is continuously being deposited in government bank branches in Odisha. The notes are largely of the Rs 500 denomination.

The IT sleuths had on Friday taken 156 cash-loaded bags to the SBI main branch at Bolangir for counting.

The tax department has deployed about 50 large and small machines to count currency notes and 50 department and bank staffers to finish the counting process.
