India To Host G20 Summit On 75th Independence Year In 2022

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday informed that India will host the G20 Summit In 2022, when the country celebrates its 75th year of Independence. The announcement was made by the PM during the ongoing G20 meet in Argentina.

In a tweet, PM Modi wrote, “In 2022 India completes 75 years since Independence. In that special year, India looks forward to welcoming the world to the G-20 Summit! Come to India, the world’s fastest growing large economy! Know India’s rich history and diversity, and experience the warm Indian hospitality.”

On Friday, India presented a nine-point agenda to the G20 countries, calling for “strong and active cooperation” among them to comprehensively deal with fugitive economic challenges.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping for the fourth time this year on Saturday, as the two leaders agreed that there had been a “perceptible improvement” in bilateral ties after their April summit in Wuhan. Both expressed hope that 2019 would witness betterment of Indo-China ties.

Notably, the G20 or Group of 20 started out in 1999 as a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the world’s major economies whose leaders first met in 2008 to help rescue the global economy from the worst financial crisis in seven decades.
