Indian Foreign Ministry summoned Maldives envoy Ibrahim Shaheeb after row over “derogatory” remarks made by Maldivian Ministers on PM Modi.

New Delhi: In a latest update, the Indian Foreign Ministry summoned Maldives envoy Ibrahim Shaheeb after row over “derogatory” remarks made by Maldivian Ministers on PM Modi’s pitch about Lakshadweep.

Visuals that have gone viral on social media show the Maldives envoy Ibrahim Shaheeb entering into the office of External Affairs Ministry in Delhi. Reports from reliable sources state that the two countries had a long discussion over the ongoing row.

This comes one day after the Maldivian Government suspended three of its ministers after they made indecent comments on PM Narendra Modi. In a noteworthy mention, the government also made an official statement saying that their comments were purely “personal” and had nothing to do with the Government.

Earlier today, Indian online travel agency EaseMyTrip also suspended all its flights to Maldives. Owner of the company Nishant Pitti said that this decision was taken “in solidarity with India.”
