EaseMyTrip suspends flights to Maldives after row over Anti-Modi posts

EaseMyTrip suspended all of its flight bookings to the Maldives after row over demeaning remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In recent news, India’s online travel agency EaseMyTrip suspended all of its flight bookings to the Maldives after row over demeaning remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his Lakshadweep visit.

EaseMyTrip founder Nishant Pitti took to his official handle on X (formerly Twitter) and informed that the decision was taken “in solidarity with our nation.”

He tweeted, “In solidarity with our nation, @EaseMyTrip has suspended all Maldives flight bookings. #TravelUpdate #SupportingNation.”

Earlier on Sunday, the Maldives government suspended three of its minsters after the made derogatory remarks against PM Modi on his Lakshadweep visit.

The three ministers are Malsha Shareef, Mariyam Shiuna, and Abdulla Mahzoom Majid. Their suspension came after India raised the matter with Maldives over the issue.

Shiuna had earlier shared a video and referred to Modi as “clown and puppet of Israel.” This was after PM Modi posted pictures of his visit to Lakshadweep and pitched the place as a tourist destination for Indians.

The post was deleted after backlash on X, where Indian social media users slammed the Maldivian government officials, including Shiuna.

In a statement, the Maldivian foreign ministry said it was aware of derogatory remarks on social media platforms against foreign leaders and high-ranking individuals.

“These opinions are personal and do not represent the views of the government of Maldives,” the statement read.
