Vellore: In view of heavy rains lashing Vellore city, the district administration has suspended schools classes for standard 1-5 on Tuesday.

The announcement has been made by the Vellore and Ranipet collectors.

However, students from Class 6 onwards will have to attend classes and there will not be any holidays for them. The university and other examinations will take place as scheduled in these two districts.

Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur today in one or two places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas. It has also predicted light to moderate rains for Wednesday and Thursday, IMD says.

Various parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to witness rainfall over the next seven days as cyclonic circulation is lying over North Coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood.

Heavy rain is likely to lash over Cuddalore, Villupuram,Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Kallakurichi and Puducherry on Thursday and Friday.

Light to moderate rain is likely to occur at few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
