EC gives clean chit to PM Modi on A-Sat speech

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on late Friday gave a clean chit to the address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the nation on the successful demonstration of the anti-satellite missile capability on Wednesday.

The EC took the decision based on the report of a committee of officers which found that the PM did not violate the provision of ‘party in power’ in the model code of conduct. The poll conduct is in place for the April-May Lok Sabha Election and a few state elections too.

On Wednesday, India’s anti-satellite weapon A-SAT missile successfully destroyed a live satellite on a low earth orbit. The PM had announced that India is only the fourth country in the world to be able to do so. The address by PM Modi was criticised by many for violating the model code of conduct, but the Election Commission’s decision has cleared all doubts.
