New Delhi: Dr Akshata Krishnamurthy, an accomplished aerospace engineer, has etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian citizen to operate a rover on Mars as part of NASA’s groundbreaking by missions.

Dr Krishnamurthy, who embarked on her American journey 13 years ago with an unwavering dream, recently shared her inspiring narrative on Instagram. Despite facing scepticism and discouragement due to her foreign national status on a visa, she remained undeterred in her pursuit of contributing to cutting-edge science and robotic operations on Earth and Mars.

The aerospace engineer attained her Ph.D. from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and, after persistent efforts, secured a coveted full-time position at NASA. Her journey wasn’t without challenges, as she candidly disclosed the hurdles of knocking on hundreds of doors to land a role at the esteemed space agency.

Krishnamurthy is currently actively involved in multiple space missions, with a notable role in the Perseverance rover mission. This mission focuses on collecting samples from the Martian surface for eventual return to Earth, marking a significant stride in space exploration.

In her Instagram post, Dr. Krishnamurthy imparts a powerful message to aspiring individuals: “No dream is ever too big. Believe in yourself, keep those blinkers on, and keep working! I promise, you’ll get there if you work hard.”

The video documenting her journey has gone viral, amassing over 394k views and garnering numerous congratulatory messages.
