BJP’s J&K State Secretary Anil Parihar, brother shot dead

Jammu: In the third incident of attack on political leaders in the state in last one month, miscreants last night shot dead BJP state secretary Anil Parihar and his brother Ajit in Kishtwar under Jammu division.

The attack on the BJP leader took place Tapal Gali Mohalla, a narrow lane located close to the house of the lawmaker. Assailants killed him along with his brother by firing from point-blank range.

In view of the killing which triggered fear and unrest in the communally sensitive Kishtwar, the authorities imposed an indefinite curfew in and around the area as a ‘precautionary measure’.

As per the report, Anil’s brother who runs a shop was returning home after closing it with the lawmaker when the attack took place.

The incident sparked massive protests in Kishtwar in which at least two police officers have been injured so far.

Police have started a probe into the incident and are examining both militancy as well the local angle.

Notably, before joining the BJP, Anil was a member of the J&K National Panthers Party.
