The incident occurred while the train was en route on the Agra–Jhansi line, leading to an immediate detachment of four coaches from the train to prevent the fire from spreading.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Agra West, Sonam Kumar, reported that seven passengers suffered minor burn injuries and received medical attention at the SN Medical College and Hospital’s emergency ward, while the remaining six injured passengers were taken to a nearby healthcare facility located near the scene of the train stoppage.

Tej Prakash Agarwal, the Agra Zone Divisional Railway Manager, has assured a comprehensive investigation into the incident. He stated, “After railway staff detected smoke emanating from one of the coaches of the running Patalkot Express, the information was relayed to the station master, and necessary measures were taken to halt the train.”

Prashasti Srivastava, the spokesperson for Agra Zone of North Central Railways, elaborated, “Initially, smoke was detected in one of the coaches of Patalkot Express… The train was brought to a halt around 3.45 pm on Wednesday. In all, four coaches were detached… Five fire engines were dispatched to extinguish the fire.”

Many passengers were relocated to the Durg Humsafar Express, which had stopped on a nearby track. The delayed departure of the Patalkot Express disrupted normal traffic movement on the Agra-Jhansi line, resulting in some trains being stranded for hours at the Agra Cantt station.
