IPS Sarah Sharma sings SHE Team theme song on women safety

Gajapati: IPS Sarah Sharma, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Gajapati district in Odisha deserves admiration for her latest initiative on women safety. She has lately released a song ‘Narira Suraksha Pain Neichhu Pana’. It is the theme song of the project ‘SHE Team’ on women safety. SHE stands for ‘Safety-Health-Environment’. Importantly, Sharma herself has lent her voice to the song.

The song

The theme song is a peppy number. And the top cop has presented the song beautifully. She has sung like a professional. The song has garnered huge admiration from everyone, especially from youngsters. The video of Sharma recording the song at the studio has gone viral. The lyrics of the song roughly translate to “We have vowed to provide security to women. We have dedicated our lives to the country. We are ‘SHE Team’. In the video, we can see Sharma singing like a rock star.

Inception

According to Sharma, she came to know about the number of eve-teasing cases after speaking to a few girls in the district. Most of these cases go unreported. She was shocked to know that despite the deployment of adequate police personnel in the district women safety is still a big issue. Accordingly, she came up with the SHE Team project.

SHE Team

SHE Team is a pilot project of Gajapati Police. It aims to ensure the safety and security of women and children in the district. The initiative was launched in the district by the superintendent of Police Sarah Sharma on Tuesday. ‘She Team’ project was initiated by Hyderabad Police to provide protection to women and girls in distress in the city.

Function of SHE Team

SHE Team has been assigned tasks to conduct patrolling in schools, colleges, and other institutions frequently visited by girls and women. The team comprises of seven constables, headed by a lady Sub-Inspector. Besides, the team also spreads awareness among women and girls to raise their voice against violence.

A helpline number will also be made available so that girls and women can easily file any complaint of harassment against them.

About Sarah Sharma

Sharma has been trained at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA) in Bhubaneswar. She has pursued MPhil in international relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Besides writing and reading Sharma also loves singing. She has attended music classes to hone her skills and love to spend some time at home for riyaaz. Earlier, the top cop was in news for her initiative to help out the cyclone Fani victims. Along with other cops, she went door to door to collect donation and materials in the district. The collected money and materials were then sent to the State police headquarters to be used for the benefit of the cyclone victims.
