Bhubaneswar: As many as 35,440 meritorious students who have successfully cleared the annual Matric examination this year will get Rs 5000 each under the Chief Minister’s Merit Scholarship programme this year.
According to sources at School & Mass Education department, a guideline clearly mentioning about selection of the students and procedure to award the meritorious students the scholarship has been prepared.
As per the guideline, the meritorious students of the state-run and government aided private Odia medium high schools approved by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) having highest marks in the annual Class-X examination will be covered under the Scholarship programme from this year.
Total 100 students from every block, 100 from every Municipal Corporation, 50 from each municipality and 20 students from every NAC will get the scholarship.
Each student will receive Rs 5,000 as scholarship amount, which will be transferred to their bank account.
The district education officer will transfer the scholarship amount to the eligible students at their bank accounts between August and September. A proof regarding transfer of amount will be forwarded to the BSE director within one month of the payment. The documents will be sent to the government after verification by the BSE.
The selection criteria: The students having highest marks in science paper will receive the scholarship amount in case of more than one student find place in the bottom of the merit list. If the marks in science paper were equal, the marks in mathematics paper will be taken into consideration. If the students secured equal marks in mathematics, final list of eligible students will be prepared on the basis of the marks secured in the social science paper.
