Jharsuguda: Tension prevailed in Bagadihi village under Laikera police limits in the district on Tuesday after a cook of Mahakal Temple in the locality was brutally hacked to death by an unidentified assailant.

The deceased cook has been identified as Natha Sahoo.

The murder came to fore after some locals who visited the temple early in the morning found Natha lying in a pool of blood near the donation box. Deep injury marks, apparently caused by a sharp weapon, were also found on the neck of the deceased.

Laikera Police rushed to the spot after getting intimation on the incident and sent the dead body for postmortem.

While the police are still emptyhanded in the case, some locals have claimed the involvement of a coconut vendor of the temple in the murder. They claimed to have seen the accused fleeing out of the temple with an axe like substance in his hand soon after the incident.
