Sensex declines over 236 points to 72,173, Nifty falls to 21,703

In the early trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined 236.56 points to 72,173.82, while the Nifty dropped 74.8 points to 21,703.90.

New Delhi: After yesterday’s record-high rally, the equity benchmark indices dropped in the opening session on Friday. In the early trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined 236.56 points to 72,173.82, while the Nifty dropped 74.8 points to 21,703.90.

At 11.00 am, the Sensex was down 237.03 points or 033 per cent at 72,173.35, while the Nifty declined 67.85 points or 0.31 per cent to 21,710.85.

The major gainer were Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Motors, Maruti, and ITC. Kotak Mahindra Bank, State Bank of India, Power Grid, Titan, Reliance Industries, Infosys, and NTPC were the laggards among the Sensex firms.

The BSE benchmark continued its rising rally for the fifth day and jumped 371.95 points, or 0.52 percent, to close at a high of 72,410.38 on Thursday.  Meanwhile, the Nifty was up 123.95 points , or 0.57 per cent, to settle at a fresh record of 21,778.70.
