Tata Safari EV spotted in Traffic, Is Tata making a big move in the electric SUV segment

In the electric car segment in India, Tata Motors is well known for making future-proof vehicles. The Tata Nexon EV has proved to be a great example when it comes to an electric vehicle manufactured by an Indian manufacturer. Recently a Tata Safari EV was spotted at a traffic crossing and it had a green number plate. This has left us wondering whether Tata is going to introduce an electric SUV in the future.

The image of a Tata Safari with a green number plate was shared by autojournal_india on its official Instagram handle. Even though the vehicle is an EV, it is not a product manufactured by Tata. The EV is originally a BS-6 XZA Plus model which is powered by a 2-litre diesel engine. However, it has been converted from an ICE to an EV by the owner. We are not sure whether the user did the modification himself or took the help of any car customization shop. Post the customization (by using the conversion kit) the car was registered as an EV is the RTO. We estimate that the range of the car will be at least 200-300 km in the real world

If Tata Motors wants to inquire about the Safari EV they can look into the matter.

The Tata Safari is powered by a Kryotec 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine which generates power of 167.62 bhp. The maximum torque offered by the SUV is 350Nm. The SUV has a 1956cc BS VI engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is also an option for a six-speed automatic torque converter automatic gearbox. The tank capacity is 50 litres while the boot space is 73. The SUV offers a mileage of 14.08 kmpl (ARAI).

The Tata Safari starts at a price of Rs 15.25 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) while the top variant is priced at Rs 23.46 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
