Next-generation of Toyota Innova to get a hybrid engine, launch expected toward end of 2022

Toyota Innova has been one of the popular MPVs to be sold in the Indian market. The Innova offers ample space and power that is required for an Indian family during travel or on a regular use. According to various reports, Toyota is all set to launch the next generation Toyota Innova in the Indian market and we are all excited about it. The new Innova will be quite different from the present version as it will have a different powertrain, design as well as a new platform.

Engine

Unlike the current generation, the new Innova will not be powered by a diesel engine. It will be rather powered by a petrol hybrid engine. The hybrid engine will have a twin-motor set-up which will be connected to a petrol engine at the front. The hybrid system will be lighter and more efficient as it will offer more torque than the current generation. The running cost of the new generation of Innova is expected to be lower than the diesel variant. We expect a 2.0 hybrid engine on the new Innova.

Platform

The new Innova will be based on GA-C or Global Architecture C platform which is also shared by Corolla. The Innova will be loosely based on the 670B which is sold in Japan. The new Innova will also borrow its design from other Japanese MPVs like Toyota Voxy and Noah. The new Innova is codenamed 560B and is about 4.7m long. This means that it will be shorter than the current generation. However, the space inside the 560B will be more due to the presence of GA-C platform. The platform will offer more vertically aligned C pillars that will offer more space inside the cabin.

The new Innova will have a longer wheelbase of 2850mm while the overall weight will be 170kg lighter. It is noteworthy to mention that the MPV will be based on monocoque chassis.

The Innova Crysta has an IMV platform which is present in the Fortuner SUV as well as the recently launched Hilux pickup truck.

Features

The important features that will be present on the next-generation Toyota Innova are ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, reclining captain seats with an ottoman function, and many more.

The new Innova can be expected around Diwali of this year. The current generation of Innova Crysta costs between Rs 17.86 lakh and Rs 25.68 lakh. We expect a price hike for the MPV as it launches in India.
