Toyota unveils all-new Century SUV; Price, features, India launch timeline details

Toyota has unveiled the all-new Century flagship SUV in Japan at a price of JPY 25 million (around Rs.1.41 crore).

Toyota has unveiled the all-new Century flagship SUV in Japan at a price of JPY 25 million (around Rs.1.41 crore). Toyota has revealed the details i,mages and about the ultra-luxurious SUV. The new Century SUV will be the second addition to luxury line-up of the Japanese company after the popular Century sedan.

The ultra-luxury SUV competes against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLS Maybach, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga. The Century SUV is currently only available in Japan. But, it will soon arrive in other markets. There also the possibility of it arriving in India.

Toyota Century SUV design, and features

The new Century SUV is a luxury four-seater offering of Toyota. It measures 5,205mm long, 1,990mm wide and 1,805mm tall, with a 2,950mm wheelbase. This means it is 130mm shorter, 60mm wider, and 300mm taller than the five-seat Century sedan.

The Century SUV features an upright nose and boxy frame with rounded edges. It has a prominent shoulder line that smoothly tapers off at the rear. The headlamps are similar in shape to the Century sedan and get two separate housings replete with LED elements and new grille inserts. it sports the “Phoenix emblem” on the centre of the grille.

Customers can buy the luxury SUV in either a conventional door option or a sliding door option (available with the GR Sport). It is offered in two wheel sizes- the standard 20-inch and 22-inch alloy wheel. The SUV features LED tail-lamps with 3D elements and a raked rear glass that blends with the upright tailgate design. The SUV sports the Century branding, positioned in the centre at the front side. It retains the iconic two-tone paint job from the sedan. Toyota offers the SUV in a total of seven different exterior paint colour combinations.

The Century SUV features flat foldable electrically adjustable seats, a powered side step on both sides, the rear doors open 75 degrees, and has a large grab handle. It also gets rotating picnic tables, two 11.6-inch TVs, two removable 5.5-inch touchscreen control panels and a refrigerator.

It is equipped with soft-touch materials all around with woodgrain and brushed aluminum finish. It comes with two 12.3-inch infotainment displays and another instrumentation screen. The multi-function steering wheel gets a unique design and an 18-speaker sound system, wireless phone charger, and digital rear-view mirror among other creature comforts.

Toyota Century SUV powertrain

The Century SUV is powered by a 3.5-litre, V6 petrol engine with a plug-in hybrid setup that provides 406hp. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Toyota claims the Century SUV has an all-electric range of up to 69km, and when the battery is depleted, it has an average hybrid fuel consumption of 7 litres per 100km.

It gets four drive modes that include Normal, Eco and Sport, and a ‘Rear Comfort’ mode. This special Rear Comfort mode distributes the driving and braking force in a way that doesn’t disturb rear passengers, said Toyota. It also gets four-wheel steering that’s claimed to provide “easy handling” at low speeds, and “seamless, natural handling” at medium-to-higher speeds.

Toyota might bring the Century SUV to India seeing how it introduced the Vellfire in the country within a week of it’s international debut. Toyota could introduce the Century SUV in India to attract the luxury SUV customers.
