Tata Punch EV launched in India; Offers up to 421km range on a full charge

Tata has launched its fourth electric vehicle after Nexon EV, Tigor EV and Tiago EV. The Punch is also the second model of the company to get ICE, CNG as well as EV versions. The Tata Punch EV is the second SUV offered by the company in electric variant. It is offered in four variants – Smart, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered plus. The starting price of Tata Punch EV is ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory).

Important Specs

Tata Punch EV gets the all-new Gen-2 Pure EV platform called Acti.EV and is the first model in the lineup to get it. Tata’s new EV gets a ground clearance of 190 mm. However, the dimension of the SUV has not changed. In terms of design, the Punch EV shares some similarity like the Nexon EV facelift. The SUV gets LED DRLs at the front while the LED headlights are slim. We also get a closed grille and refreshed 16-inch alloy design. Apart from storage at the rear, the Punch EV is also getting storage space under the bonnet (14 litres). The boot space at the rear is of 366 litres.

Battery and performance

Tata Punch EV offers mid and long-range battery packs. The mid-range battery pack offers 25kWh battery unit. On the other hand, the long-range battery pack has capacity of 35kWh. Tata claims that the 25kWh battery unit will offer up to 315 kms of range in a single charge. On the other hand, the 35kWh battery unit will offer up to 421 kms of range in a single charge. In terms of charging, the EV supports 7.2 kW fast home charging or 50 kW DC fast charging.

In terms of output, the mid-range version offers 80 bhp of power and 114 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the long-range version offers 120 bhp and 190 Nm of torque.

Features

In terms of features, we get seat ventilation for front row, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air purifier, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In terms of safety, Punch EV gets six airbags as standard, ESP and Electronic Parking Brake. An electric sunroof can also be opted for Punch EV by paying Rs 50,000 more.
