Tata Altroz iCNG all set to launch on April 19

The CNG variant of the Tata Altroz will be launched tomorrow that is on Wednesday. It will rival Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza CNG.

Tata Motors has teased the upcoming CNG variant of the Altroz and has confirmed that it will debut in India on April 19. The company first unveiled the Tata Altroz CNG at the Auto Expo 2023. At that time it was shown alongside the Tata Punch.

Tata Altroz CNG will be the third offering of the company’s CNG portfolio, which already has Tiago, and Tigor.

Tata Altroz CNG powertrain

The Altroz CNG will come with the 1.2-litre, three cylinder engine that will provide 77hp of power and 97Nm of peak torque. The same engine produces 86hp and 113Nm of torque in petrol mode.

The motor is going to offered with a sole 5-speed manual geabox. Like the Tiago and Tigor CNG, the  Altroz can also start directly in CNG mode, a feature none of its rivals offer.

The Tiago and Tigor CNG offer a claimed fuel economy of 26.49km/kg, and we expect that the Altroz will offer a similar figure as well.

Tata Altroz CNG design, variants, features

The CNG variant of Altroz will have the same exterior design as the current model, the exception being the ‘iCNG’ badge on the tailgate.

The most unique aspect of the premium hatchback though is the new dual-cylinder set-up in the boot. Unlike the large 60-litre tank that plagues boot space in multiple CNG models, the new twin cylinders, which are 30 litres each, have been positioned under the boot floor to free up storage space.

It is expected to have three trims – XM, XZ and the top-spec XZ+. The interior features might include a 7.0-inch touchscreen, a digital driver’s display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a voice-activated sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels, an engine start/stop button, automatic climate control, height adjustable driver’s seat, leatherette seats, rear AC vents and a front centre armrest.

Tata Altroz CNG expected price, rivals

The Altroz petrol manual variant is currently priced starting from Rs 6.45 lakh and tops out at Rs 9.10 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The CNG variant of the vehicle is expected to cost Rs 90,000 more than the current petrol model. After the launch of Altroz CNG, it will rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza CNG.
