Students Demand Plus Two Course at Surada Model School

Ganjam: Hundreds of students and parents of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (model school) in Surada in the district today staged a demonstration in front of the Tehsil office demanding the introduction of plus two courses at the school.

Braving the scorching heat, the students sat on a dharna. “Most of the students hail from poor families and cannot afford higher studies. In the absence of plus two courses most of the students in the area need to take admission in institutes either at Berhampur or Bhubaneswar which will be very expensive,” said a student.

As many as 59 students of the Model School have cleared the matriculation examination this year while nine of them have secured over 90 percent marks.

“We have been demanding the introduction of plus two courses in the school but the authorities have kept mum. Several other Model schools in the state have already introduced plus two courses. We will intensify the agitation for the future of our children,” said a parent.
