Nayagarh/Balasore/Puri: Odisha on Thursday registered three minor rapes including that of a divyang from three separate places.
In the first incident, a differently-abled minor girl was being raped and impregnated by a youth at Itamati village of Nayagarh district for the last four months. However, the matter came to light only when the victim’s parents noticed her pregnancy yesterday.
The villagers wanted to settle the matter through arbitration when the divyang’s parent informed them about the matter. However, they lodged police complaint as the issue was not solved in the village meeting. Based on the complaint, police arrested accused Brajabandhu Sahoo, who confessed to the crime during interrogation.
In the second such shameful incident, one Banthu Marandi of Chandipur in Balasore district was arrested under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012 today for raping his five-year-old niece yesterday. Meanwhile, Banthu and the minor girl have been sent for medical examination.
In the third incident, a nine-year-old girl was raped on the premises of Jogeswarpur school under Nayahat Police Outpost limits in Konark of Puri district today.
According to sources, the survivor, who was admitted to the local hospital following the incident, has been shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar in critical condition.
Nayahat police, meanwhile, has initiated an investigation into the matter. Besides, efforts are on to identify the rapist.
