Odisha Pilot among 2 killed in Raipur helicopter crash

Raipur: In a tragic incident, as many as two pilots, including one from Odisha, have been killed after a helicopter crashed at Raipur airport on Thursday night.

The deceased pilots have been identified as Captain Gopal Krishna Panda from Odisha and Captain AP Srivastava.

Reportedly, the helicopter caught fire while they were attempting to land the aircraft. The tragic incident took place during a flying practice at the Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur.

As a result, both the pilots lost their lives in the accident. Notably, there were no passengers or crew members on board during the mishap.

The actual cause behind the crash is yet to be ascertained. An elaborate technical investigation shall be carried out on behalf of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Chhattisgarh Government to figure out the exact reason behind the accident, added reports.

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister took to his Twitter handle to express his grief and condolences and to pay his tributes to the pilots. His tweet read, “Just got the shocking news of the helicopter crash at Raipur airport. The tragic incident took away the life of both our pilots, Captain Panda and Captain Srivastava. May God give strength to their families and peace to the departed souls.”
