Rupee weakens against Dollar, Markets open lower

Mumbai: The Indian rupee opened marginally lower at 69.40 per dollar on Wednesday against Tuesday’s close of 69.34. Meanwhile, markets also fell in opening trade driven by losses in oil retailers.

On Tuesday, the domestic currency ended flat at 69.36 against the US dollar as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East dampened forex market sentiment.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell as much as 0.15 per cent or 65 points to 39,381.60, while the NSE Nifty 50 fell as much as 0.11 per cent to 11,783.65. The broader market index represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index traded flat.

However, the market breadth was favourable of buyers. It led to about 743 stocks advancing and 712 shares declining on the National Stock Exchange.
