Bhawanipatna: A cotton farmer of Madiguda village of Kalahandi district breathed his last today after consuming poison over crop loss and loan burden on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Bahadur Rama (45) died while undergoing treatment at Titlagarh government hospital.
According to his family members, Bahadur had taken a loan of Rs 4 lakh for cotton farming on his four acres of land. He took the extreme step after being in distress for days for suffering a crop loss.
He was rushed to the Titlagarh government hospital in a critical condition.
The incident has spread a pall of gloom in the area.
