Madhusudan Law College to get University status

Cuttack: The Odisha Government has decided to upgrade the historic Madhusudan Law College in Cuttack to a University. This was informed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while addressing the Legal Front State Executive meeting here on Sunday.

Patnaik also informed to increase the Lawyer’s welfare fund from Rs 3 crore to Rs 5 crore. Besides, a lawyers’ academy will be set up by 2019.

The CM further informed that the state government has taken a number of steps to ease access to justice by establishing new courts in 14 blocks of Odisha.

“Special efforts have been taken for the appointment of judicial officers, establishment of Lok Adalats/Jan Adalats for expediting the judicial process,” Patnaik added. He also urged the lawyers to co-operate with the administration and contribute their part in the quest to save Mahanadi.

State Law Minister Pratap Jena, Cuttack (Barabati) MLA Debashish Samantaray, State Convenor Milan Kanungo, Legal Advisors, Odisha State Bar Council Member Asim Amitabh Das and members of the Odisha State Bar Council were present during the meeting.
