Koraput Stone Quarry Mishap: Blasting to carry out for rescue operation

Koraput: The district administration on Wednesday decided to carry out a minor blasting at the Bariput stone quarry in the district in order to rescue the two labourers who have been trapped there since last seven days.

The development came after a team of army engineers from Ranchi visited the spot today and held a closed-door meeting with the District Collector, Superintendent of Police and other stake holders including the local representatives and family members of the trapped labourers.

The district administration has also issued an advisory to vacate humans and animals within 1 km radius of the accident site.

The fire personnel, ODRAF team, NDRAF team and a team from Chhattisgarh based NMDC had tried to rescue the victims but in vain.

The two labourers- Sanjay Das and Ghanashyam Guru got trapped when a sudden landslide occurred at the stone quarry near the on-going Telengiri Irrigation project on May 31.
