10 vehicles, 6 shops gutted on New Year day in Odisha

Baripada: As many as 10 vehicles and six garages were reduced to ashes in a major fire that broke out at Madhuban Garage Chhak area in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district just hours after the Zero Night celebration. The exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

According to reports, a fire broke out at the garage all of a sudden while some employees were sleeping in the shop. The impact of the fire was so severe that it spread to other shops and vehicles that were parked outside within no time. Four tractors, two cars, three pick-ups and one Bolero vehicle worth more than one crore were reduced to ashes.

The eye witnesses alleged that though the fire personnel were informed about the matter on time, the fire brigades arrived very late.

“Fire broke out at one shop at around 3 AM while all were asleep. The impact of the inferno was so much that we could not save any vehicle. Apart from the vehicles, properties worth lakhs including machinery item were also destroyed due to the fire. We informed the fire fighters on time. However, they arrived so late that nothing was left,” said one of the eye witnesses.

The local police has initiated an investigation into the matter.
