Singapore Health Ministry issues guidelines amid surge in Covid-19 cases

Singapore: In a recent development, the Ministry of Health in Singapore has issued mask mandate at crowded places, particularly indoors. Citizens have further been advised to wear masks at airports and also avoiding to visit crowded areas that are poorly ventilated.

This comes after there was a spike in number of Covid-19 positive cases in Singapore in the first week of December. Between December 3 and December 9, the number of positive cases in Singapore was reportedly above 56,000.

In an official statement, the Singapore Health Ministry shared that the number of active case rose by approximately 24,000 just within a week’s time and the average daily hospitalizations rose from 225 to 350.

The Singaporean government further said that dominant variant responsible for causing these infections is the JN.1 sub variant. This comes from the Covid variant BA.2.86. The official statement further said that at this point of time, it is not ascertained which of the two variants is more transmissible or dangerous.

Due to the sudden surge in Covid cases in Singapore, the government has also issued some other preventive and preemptive measures. These include collaboration between the health ministry and public hospitals and the opening of second Covid-19 treatment Facility in Singapore.

Moreover, the Government has also warned the public to remain indoors in case they experience symptoms of respiratory infections. The health ministry of Singapore has also encouraged the usage of masks at crowded public place and at airports as well.
