PM Modi to attend swearing-in ceremony of Maldives President-elect on Nov 17

New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Maldives President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on 17th of this month, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said here on Friday.

“In keeping with India’s neighbourhood first policy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted Maldives President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s invitation to attend his swearing-in ceremony in Male on November 17,” Kumar said at a media briefing.

“The Prime Minister will return to New Delhi on the same day,” he added.

Solih, the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s candidate, emerged victorious over incumbent president Abdulla Yameen in the election held on September 23.
