Pained by the suffering of cats during their slaughtering, a Vietnamese man who killed over 300 cats a month shut down his restaurant.

Hanoi: Pained by the suffering of cats during their slaughtering, a Vietnamese man who killed over 300 cats a month shut down his restaurant. Pham Quoc Doanh reportedly tore down the sign advertising cat meat, or thit meo, outside his Gia Bao restaurant and shut down the eatery.

According to the Humane Society International, Pham Quoc Doan used to slaughter around 300 cats each month for a soup recipe. However, he shut down the restaurant after feeling pity for the innocent animal. As many as 20 cats and kittens were rescued and given to local adoption agencies.

While speaking about his restaurant, Doanh said that he was unable to meet the expenses of the family with the income he used to have by selling normal food and drinks. It was then, he decided to introduce thit meo as none of the nearby restaurant was serving the recipe.

Doanh’s business increased after he introduced the cat meat. He said that he drowned the cats in a bucket of water by holding them with a stick. However, after feeling sorry for them for their suffering during the slaughtering, he decided to shut his business.

The father of two children now says he feels more peaceful in his mind and is happy that he won’t be killing any more animals. He will supply a lot of products like drinks, tobacco, sweets, dry food like instant noodles to earn money to look after his family.
