Heavy, thunderstorm trigger flash flood in Dubai

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in parts of Dubai on Friday led to waterlogging and flooding on the roads of Dubai on Saturday morning.

United Arab Emirates: Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in parts of Dubai on Friday led to waterlogging and flooding on the roads of Dubai on Saturday morning. Under the influence of the extreme weather conditions, traffic and flight operations were affected in the emirates.

As a precautionary measure, people in Dubai have been advised against visiting beaches. They have been instructed to stay indoors.

Reportedly, the storms began at around 4:30 am in the morning. Dubai police and local authorities issued public safety warnings short after.

At around 6:30 am on Saturday morning, the Dubai police issued an alert urging people to steer clear of areas that remain prone to flash floods. In the same alert, people were also cautioned about refraining to go to beaches and remain cautious while driving.

Meanwhile, the National Meteorological department of UAE has issued a yellow and an orange warning nationwide, in view of the thunderstorm and rain. This was to caution the residents about the potentially adverse weather conditions for outdoor activities.

Earlier on Thursday, the UAE government had advised private companies to allow flexible working patterns. This was in order to ensure the safety of the employees in view of the unstable weather conditions.
