Hafiz Saeed’s Deputy Abdul Salam Bhuttavi is confirmed dead in Pakistan jail: UNSC

The UNSC has confirmed that one of the founding members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Abdul Salam Bhuttavi, is confirmed dead

Islamabad: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has confirmed that one of the founding members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Abdul Salam Bhuttavi, is confirmed dead.

He was also a key conspirator in the 26/11 attacks in 2008 and the UNSC said that he died of cardiac arrest on 29 May 2023 while he was in custody. He was the deputy to Hafiz Saeed.

In a press note on its official website, the UNSC further said that Bhuttavi, 77, died in Muridke in Pakistan’s Punjab province while he was under the custody of the Pakistan government.

“Bhuttavi died of cardiac arrest in Muridke, Punjab Province on 29 May 2023, while he was in custody of the Government of Pakistan,” the UNSC’s statement read.

Bhuttavi served as the acting emir of Lashkar-e-Taiba/Jamaat-ud-Dawa (LeT/JuD) on at least two occasions when Saeed was detained,” according to the UNSC.

Currently, Hafiz Saeed who is the mastermind of the Mumbai terror attack is serving a 78-year-imprisonment sentence in Pakistan.
