Gunmen Cause Massacre in Brazil Bar

Rio De Janeiro: On Sunday afternoon, a gang of gunmen massacred 11 people and wounded one person in a bar in Brazil. The wounded person is now under police protection. The attack took place in Guamá neighbourhood of the Pará state capital, Belém.

According to the G1 news website, the police reported that there were 7 gunmen who made the attack. The gunmen arrived at the bar in 3 cars and 1 motorcycle.

The news outlet also mentioned that out of the 11 people, who were killed, 6 were women and the rest 5 were men. Almost all of the victims were shot in the head.

“Of course we have some lines of investigation, which are confidential, but all of them will be analysed very carefully, very strictly,” said Ualame Machado, the secretary of public security in Pará, on a news conference on Sunday. The reasons for the attack were still unknown and nobody was arrested as of Sunday afternoon.

Reportedly, a major number of gunmen attacks in Brazil are gang-related. In January, gangs attacked across Fortzella which caused huge damage and the city had to shut down commerce, buses and taxis. Very often shootouts happen between rival gangs and police in Rio De Janeiro which injures or kills innocent bystanders on its way.

In late March, the federal government sent National Guard troops to Belém to reinforce security in the city for 90 days.
