Paris: Gabriel Attal has been appointed as the youngest prime minister of France. The French President has appointed the 34-year-old Education Minister.

He is the youngest French PM in the history after Elisabeth Borne resigned from office.

He is also the first openly gay prime minister in the French history.

“The president of the republic appointed Mr Gabriel Attal prime minister, and tasked him with forming a government,” a statement from Macron’s office read.

Attal, a close Macron ally who became a household name as government spokesman during the COVID pandemic.

Vignal, who belongs to Macron’s Renaissance party and first met Attal more than ten years ago, added that the education minister “is clear, he has authority”, Reuters reported.
