An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck Irian Jaya of Indonesia's West Papua during the night hours of December 30.
Jakarta: An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck Irian Jaya of Indonesia’s West Papua during the night hours of December 30. The quake struck at 22:46 on Saturday, confirmed the National Centre of Seismology (NCS).
Reportedly, the earthquake struck at a latitude of -3.11, and a longitude of 139.28. The tremors originated from 77 kilometers beneath the earth surface.
Taking to their official handle on X (formerly Twitter), the NCS wrote, “Earthquake of Magnitude:6.2, Occurred on 30-12-2023, 22:46:28 IST, Lat: -3.11 & Long: 139.28, Depth: 77 Km ,Location: Irian Jaya, Indonesia”
