Donald Trump triumphs in South Carolina primary, Nikki Haley vows to remain in race

United States: Former US President Donald Trump has defeated former UN ambassador Nikki Haley to win the Republican primary in South Carolina. With this, Trump will now be continuing his march to a third consecutive presidential nomination and a White house rematch with Joe Biden.

Notably, Donald Trump has enjoyed much popularity in South Carolina since his campaign in 2016. This made it easy for him to outperform Haley.

Further, it is noteworthy mentioning that Trump had already attained victory over Iowa and New Hampshire by 30 and 10 points, respectively. Now, Donald Trump has won every race that accounted for Republican delegates.

With this win, Donald Trump has tightened his grip on the Republican nomination for the White House.

It is worth mentioning that Nikki Haley was born and raised in South Carolina, where she also served as a two-term governor. Ahead of the results, Haley had said that she would continue to be in the race irrespective of the primary results.

Earlier, the Associated Press, ABC News, NBC News and Fox News made the projection just a few minutes after polls closed in the South Eastern US state on Saturday at 7 p.m. local time, Xinhua news agency reported.

Haley’s long-shot campaign survived the night, but the question everyone’s asking is how long can she hold on; more importantly, how long will donors continue to put money into her election effort despite dismal outcomes in the primaries. She continues to raise huge sums of money and she out-raised the former president last month.
