Congo: At least 22 people lost their life in Congo due to floods. This came after torrential rains caused damage to infrastructure and led to floods in the Kasai-Central province, reliable reports said in this regard.

A landslide followed the heavy rainfall, leading to mass destruction of property, leaving people homeless. Earlier on Sunday, heavy rainfall caused a landslide in eastern Congo killing four people. At least 20 people were reported missing, said reliable reports.

In an official statement, the provincial government said that an in depth investigation would be conducted to assess the severity of the damage caused. Further, they said that rescue and relief operations in search of survivors are underway.

For the unversed, heavy downpours are frequent in different parts of Congo, specifically in the remote areas. Earlier in May, over 400 people lost their lives due to floods and landslides caused due to prolonged hours of rainfall.
