New Delhi: Pakistan has released over 198 Indian fishermen detained by the country’s authorities. The authorities detained the Indian fisherman from the country’s territorial waters in the Arabian Sea.

On Thursday, the detained fishermen boarded a train destined for Lahore. They will then travel to India from Lahore.

According to reports, Pakistani authorities have decided to release the Indian fishermen as a gesture of goodwill.

In the first batch over 200 Indian fishermen were to be released. Unfortunately, two of them succumbed to illness during their detention period.

The remaining batches of the detained fishermen are scheduled to be released in June and July.

As fishermen of both India and Pakistan often transgress into the other country’s territories, the maritime security forces of both countries frequently apprehend them.

The Edhi Foundation organized the train travel for the Indian fishermen, ensuring their safe journey.

After reaching Lahore, the fishermen would be transferred to the Federal Investigation Agency, which would oversee their transportation to the Wagah border.
