Nigeria: At least 160 people were killed in series attacks by armed groups in villages in Central Nigeria. Over 300 people were injured, reliable reports confirmed on Monday.

Inputs from AFP state that local military gangs launched the well planned attacks in over 20 communities. Locally known as the “bandits,” these gangs even set houses on fire. The injured in the Nigeria attack were transferred to hospitals in Bokkos, Jos, and Barkin Ladi for immediate medical attention.

The local Red Cross in Bokkos reported 104 deaths across 18 villages in the regions. Reliable reports also reported at least 50 deaths across villages in Barkin Ladi area. Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the act of violence and called it brutal and unjust.

In an official statement, the governor’s spokesperson said that proactive measures will be taken by the government to restrict the attacks against local residents. A resident of Mushu village said that the people were fast asleep when the firing started. He further said that people were scared because of the unexpected attack.

For the unversed, Northwest and Central Nigeria have been long falling victims to frequent raids, kidnaps, and loots by the “bandits.” Notably, these groups operate from their bases located deep within forests.
