Amazon India introduces first-ever floating store for faster deliveries in Srinagar

Srinagar: Amazon India has unveiled its first-ever floating store on the picturesque Dal Lake in Srinagar. This unique store is part of their “I Have Space” (IHS) last-mile delivery program, aiming to bring faster and more reliable deliveries to customers in the region.

The floating store, owned by Murtaza Khan Kashi, operates from the charming houseboat named Selec Town. As part of the onboarding process, Mr. Kashi will deliver packages directly to customers at the doorstep of their houseboats, ensuring convenience and efficient service.

Karuna Shankar Pande, the Director of Amazon Logistics, expressed how this innovative initiative will not only benefit customers in Srinagar. With its improved delivery services, it will also create new opportunities for small businesses. Additionally, the floating store will contribute to strengthening Amazon’s overall delivery network in the region.

The “I Have Space” program, launched in 2015, has been remarkably successful. It has boasted an impressive 28,000 neighborhood and Kirana partners across approximately 420 towns and cities in India. Through partnerships with small businesses, the program enables deliveries within a 2 to 4 kilometers radius, making it highly efficient and accessible.

Participating in the IHS program is simple and open to everyone without any financial investments. Partners receive packages at their store locations and then deliver them to customers. They are compensated by Amazon based on the number of packages successfully delivered.

Amazon’s first-ever floating store in Srinagar marks a milestone in its commitment to providing fast delivery and supporting local businesses. With over 28,000 IHS partners in more than 350 cities nationwide, the program continues to revolutionize last-mile deliveries. On average, an Amazon IHS store partner can efficiently deliver between 20 and 30 packages per day, earning a fixed amount per delivery in return.
