Jagatsinghpur: A woman was stabbed to death by a man at Pitapani village under Erasama police limits of the district today. The deceased has been identified as Kabuli Khatua,
According to the sources, one Brajagopal Mandal of the village allegedly stabbed Kabuli with a sharp weapon on her abdomen over past enmity and fled the spot.
Some locals who heard Khatua’s cry for help rushed to the site, however, could not catch Mandal. They rushed Kabuli to Erasama hospital in a critical condition. Later, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her condition deteriorated. However, she breathed her last while undergoing treatment.
Tension ran high in the village as some locals, irate over the incident, ransacked Mandal’s house and set it on fire. Besides, they staged a demonstration demanding the arrest of the accused.
Adequate police personnel, meanwhile, have been deployed in the village to maintain law and order in the area. Police also have started an investigation into the matter.
