Cuttack: Continuing with its crackdown on history-sheeters in the Millenium City, the Commissionerate Police arrested wanted criminal Gurucharan Patra alias Guria following an encounter near New Market Complex in Jagatpur area last night.
Getting a tip-off on Guria’s presence on the Mahanadi River bed, the special squad of the Commissionerate Police launched a raid on him at around 8.50 pm in the night. Finding the police team approaching him the criminal opened fire at it with an objective to escape.
Guria sustained bullet injury on his left thigh as Jagatpur Police Station IIC retaliated with firing to exercise his right to private defense. The criminal was nabbed later.
Police also seized a 7.6 mm pistol, one live bullet and one empty cartridge from the possession of the arrested criminal.
Guria has been admitted to SCB Medical in Cuttack for treatment.
The held criminal has four cases pending against him in Jagatpur Police Station and two cases in Salipur Police Station.
