UTP Dies At Jharapada Jail, Family Alleges Foul Play

Bhubaneswar: A under trial prisoner (UTP) died at Jharapada jail this morning. The family members of the deceased Akhila Behera (28) a native of Dhenkanal however alleged foul play in the death.

Jail authorities said that Behera complained of chest pain in the morning and was immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital where doctors declared him received dead.    

Police said that Behera, working with an automobile showroom in Bhubaneswar was arrested on July 13 by Mancheswar police for allegedly stealing batteries from the showroom.

“We have informed his family members in Dhenkanal. The body has been kept in the morgue of the capital Hospital and postmortem will be conducted after his family members arrive,” said a police official.    

On the other hand Anita Behera, the wife of the deceased alleged foul play. “We have met him last on Thursday at the jail. He was normal and did not complain of any health issues. We suspect that he was murdered in the jail,’ alleged Anita.
