Bhubaneswar: Union minister of state for agriculture and farmers welfare Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will visit Odisha on November 12, informed Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday.
Shekhawat is scheduled to visit as many as seven districts in the state to take stock of the pest affected paddy crops and other farmers’ issues. A six member central team of BJP will accompany the Minster during the visit, Pradhan said after discussing Odisha farmers’ issues with Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh in New Delhi.
According to official sources, a whopping 1.78 lakh hectare of paddy farm in nine districts in western Odisha have been damaged by massive pest attack. In last ten days, nine farmers have ended their lives over crop loss due to pest attack.
