Undertrial prisoner escapes from SCB Medical in Cuttack

Cuttack: An undertrial prisoner reportedly escaped from the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack today. The undertrial prisoner, who has been identified as Sukra Munda, escaped from police custody while undergoing treatment at the government-run hospital.

Munda was lodged at the Ragadi Sub-Jail following his arrest in a murder case that took place in the Kaliapani Police Station area two years back. Later, he was shifted to the Jajpur Sub-jail after he was infected with Tuberculosis (TB).

The jail authorities then shifted Munda to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his health condition deteriorated further on June 30.

Three security persons along with a pharmacist accompanied Munda to the Cuttack hospital. After three days of treatment at the hospital, the undertrial prisoner fled from the hospital by taking the advantage of the inattentiveness of the security persons.

Later, the authorities of the Sub-Jail filed a case at Mangalabag Police Station against Munda. Based on the complaint, cops have started a search operation across the city to trace him.
