Senior Citizens duped of Rs 2.65 Lakh through Cyber Fraud in Kalahandi of Odisha

Bhawanipatna: A senior citizen couple fell prey to Cyber fraudsters and lost Rs 2.65 lakh in Bhawanipatna of Kalahandi district in Odisha on 16 Jan, 2021.

The victims of the fraud were identified as Gangadhar Subudhi and his wife. Both of them are residents of Sharma colony of the town.

According to reports, Gangadhar allegedly received a call about winning a prize from a customer care executive of a telecom company on Saturday. The executive on the phone told Gangadhar that he had won a smartphone and a cash prize of Rs 20,000 during a New Year lucky draw.

Subsequently, the executive asked personal details of Gangadhar and his wife and then asked the couple to follow his instructions. The couple followed the instructions of the executive but were shocked to find that they had lost around Rs 2.65 lakh within a few minutes after the call.

Without losing any time, Gangadhar rushed to the Bhawinipatna Police and filed a complaint regarding the cyber fraud. He also met Superintendent of police, Kalahandi Cyber cell who assured him of taking strict action against the fraudster.
