Road blockade at Rasulgarh square in Bhubaneswar protesting loot, robbery

Bhubaneswar: Protesting the frequent attacks and loots in the city, the irate locals staged road blockade at Rasulgarh Square here in Odisha on Wednesday.

Tension erupted in the Rasulgarh area this morning after miscreants brutally attacked a hotelier and robbed him of his cash and valuables in Mancheswar area late last night.

The victim has been identified as Bulu Samantray, the owner of the Trupti Hotel at Rasulgarh square in the city.

The protesters blocked the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar NH by burning tyres at the square demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the crime.

Vehicular movement came to a grinding halt in the area due to the protest. Commuters had a harrowing time reaching their destinations as hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the roads.

Senior police officials reached the spot to pacify the protesters when the news was filed.

Yesterday, several incidents of loot and robbery were reported in the State capital.

Five armed miscreants attacked the owner of a car showroom near Puri bypass road and snatched a gold chain from him. They also looted cash of Rs 2 lakh from a customer at gunpoint.

Earlier in the day, some bike-borne miscreants looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from a couple by brandishing guns at Gadakona area in the city.

In another incident, a group of robbers barged into a house of retired bank employee under Mancheswar police limits and looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables.
