Odisha Police Officers’ Association President suspended for demanding protection for cops

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma suspended the president of Odisha Police Officers’ Association (OPA) and assistant commissioner of police in Bhubaneswar, Satyajit Mishra for demanding protection for police personnel across the state.

On Sunday, OPA called a press meet and demanded separate law for police personnel on duty after Baliapal IIC faced mob attack following the death of a minor boy in a Dhaba under mysterious circumstances two days back.

Addressing the press meet, Mishra said, “The time has come that State Government constituted a special law to protect the police personnel from facing public ire on the similar lines as in the case of government doctors”.

“Officers across ranks will be able to discharge their duties more effectively with a separate law for their safety and security”, he added.

Meanwhile, Mishra today said that his association members will approach the DG to reconsider the suspension order as he had not violated any rule of law instead raised voice for the police personnel across the state.
