Ravenshaw University Students Call off strike

Cuttack: The students of Ravenshaw University, who were on a two-day strike over different issues including fee hike, called off their agitation this afternoon.

According to sources, the agitating students called off their strike after Vice-Chancellor Ishan Kumar Patro clarified not to increase the course fees. Patro’s statement came after the staff council meet today.

He also made it clear that the sine die will not be lifted until withdrawal of strike and restoration of normalcy in the University.

The Vice-Chancellor also informed that the exams will be held on June 27, as it was scheduled earlier.

The students of the premium University of Odisha had launched a demonstration, under the aegis of Ravenshaw Chhatra Kriyanusthan Committee, protesting fee hikes on Tuesday.

They had demanded the withdrawal of official order to vacate hostels by May 28 and introduction of compulsory meals for hostel the boarders. Besides, they had sought for the re-introduction of previous instant examination system for final year students.

The University authorities had declared the sine die on Tuesday night following the demonstration of the students. Police also had conducted flag march on the campus of the University, while the students were continuing their agitation in front of the main gate of the institute.
