Rath Yatra 2023: Preparatory meeting to be held today

The preparatory meeting of the co-ordination committee for the annual Rath Yatra festivities in Puri will be held today.

Puri: The preparatory meeting of the co-ordination committee for the annual Rath Yatra festivities in Puri will be held today. In the meeting, district officials, Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) and other officials of temple administration, including the sevayats will be present.

The meeting will be held in the Conference Hall of Gopabandhu Ayurvedic University. It will be chaired by the RDC.

The Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) will submit a report regarding the measures to be taken by the district administration as well as the Odisha Police for smooth conduct of Rath Yatra arrangements.

Puri Collector, Superintendent of Police (SP), various departmental heads and other important district-level officials will also be present at the preparatory meeting.

Noteworthy, the annual Rath Yatra will take place on June 20, 2023 (Tuesday) this year.

The first phase of chariot wood arrived from Boudh Forest Department for the world-famous Puri Rath Yatra on April 8, 2023 (Saturday).

According to reports, 28 pieces of dhaura wood of 40 feet length has arrived at the shrine from Boudh district in a truck.

It is worth mentioning that as much as 303 pieces of wood will come from Boudh district.

The ritualistic process of cutting of trees for wood log for the construction of the three chariots for the famous Rath Yatra festival in Puri has formally started.

The process started in North Ghumusara Forest range of Ganjam on 30 March, 2023 which also happened to be Ram Navami.

The slicing of the tress for the wood logs has started in Central Kaliamba Forest.
