Rare black tiger found dead in Simlipal of Odisha
A rare black (melanistic) tiger has been found dead due to infighting in Simlipal tiger sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.
Mayurbhanj: In a tragic incident, a rare melanistic (black) tiger has been found dead Similipal sanctuary of Mayubhanj district in Odisha.
The incident has been reported from the core area of Simlipal tiger sanctuary in Mayurbhanj. The death of the tiger has allegedly taken place due to suspected infighting. The news of the death has been informed by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Sushil Kumar Popli.
It is worth mentioning that when the tigers were spotted in the Similipal sanctuary of Mayubhanj it was a great matter of joy.
The rare variety of Black Tigers were spotted for the first time in Simlipal Tiger Reserve of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha on August 1, 2022.
It is to be noted that, “Tigers are a symbol of sustainability of India’s forests said Susanta Nanda, Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer who shared the video of these majestic beasts on his twitter handle.
He has further added that, “Sharing an interesting clip of a rare melanistic tiger marking its territory on international Tigers day.”
He also wrote in his tweet that these tigers are, “From a Tiger Reserve poised for recovery of an isolated source population with a very unique gene pool.”
The officer had shared a video of the rare black (melanistic) beasts which had become viral on various social media platforms.
